Tracy McGrady Makes Baseball Debut

Tracy McGrady’s professional pitching debut began with a called strike. After that, he probably didn’t fair much better than any of us would.

The 34-year-old took the mound Saturday for the Sugarland Skeeters and gave up two runs in an inning and two-thirds in a 5-3 loss to the Somerset Patroits. The seven-time NBA All-Star threw 35 pitches with 18 strikes and walked a pair in front of a sellout crowd of 7701..

Okay…no one is going to call McGrady’s stint with the Skeeters anything more than a publicity stunt, but here’s a fun fact. At six-foot-eight, dude wasn’t even the tallest player on the field Saturday night. That title belongs to Somerset closer Jon Hunton who is listed at six-foot-nine.

About Shawn Anderson

Shawn Anderson is that guy who, instead of sitting there talking about the game going on around him, is talking wise about the history of baseball. He believes baseball figures such as Tommy John, Harold Baines, Ron Guidry and Billy Martin deserve their own plaque somewhere if not in Cooperstown. You can follow him on Twitter at @HOVG.
