Minor League Park Engulfed by Water

The San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates have shaped the identity of their ballpark based on its proximity to water.

The Quad City River Bandits think that’s adorable.

You see, the single-A affiliate of the Houston Astros play their home games at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa, which just happens to be a stones throw from the Mississippi River.

And because of its proximity to the mighty Mississip, you’ll get images like this from time to time.

Yet, despite having its park nearly completely engulfed by water, the team seems to be taking things in stride.

“It’s a little different for a lot of us in the front office, but people here seem to be taking everything in stride. We’re surrounded by water, but it’s business as usual,” River Bandits general manager Andrew Chesser said. “The crews from the City of Davenport have done a great job of setting up a dry and safe way for fans to get here and enjoy games.”

But…about that water. Yikes!

Shawn is that guy who instead of sitting there talking about the game going on around him is talking wise about the history of baseball. He believes baseball figures such as Tommy John, Harold Baines, Ron Guidry and Billy Martin deserve their own plaque somewhere if not in Cooperstown and fondly remembers the time he saw Rickey Henderson walking into a hotel with a woman on each arm following a Yankees game.
