Report: Jacoby Ellsbury to the Yankees

The wound probably feels a lot fresher, but, believe it or not…it's been nearly eight years since Johnny Damon left the Boston Red Sox for The Big Apple.

Now, Jacoby Ellsbury appears to be following in Damon's footsteps.

According to Jon Heyman, the All-Star is close to bolting BeanTown and inking a deal with the rival New York Yankees…to the tune of a seven-year deal.

"It could happen," said someone familiar with the talks.

Sure, "it could happen" aren't the most confident of words, but given the way this off season has went so far…anything is possible.  If and when this deal goes down, it is believed it will exceed the $142-million, seven-year deal Carl Crawford signed in December 2010.

If you need a reminder, Ellsbury hit .298 and swiped a league-leading 52 bases for the World Champs this past season.

***UPDATE***   According to MLB.com, Ellsbury has agreed to a seven-year, $153 million deal. The deal includes an eight-year option that could raise total value to $169 million.
